Abisola Omole's Universal Standard Capsule Tests Size Inclusion Against the GLP-1 Boom

Topic card: glp-1

London-based creative director Abisola Omole launched a seven-piece capsule with Universal Standard in September, and told Glossy the fashion industry is using GLP-1 drugs as cover for retreating from inclusive sizing. The collection, US x Abisola, is priced from $150 to $225 and spans sizes 00-40.

The pieces include tailoring, knitwear and separates built to work together: a $225 Ponte Blazer, a $165 Ponte Wrap Pant, a $150 Soft Spun Polo Sweater. Omole traveled from London to New York for fittings and pushed for construction changes, including two internal buttons on the wrap trousers and separately graded cape buttonholes that align with the blazer at every size.

Where the units went

All of the sales figures here come from Universal Standard, not an independent audit. The brand says nearly 60% of first-week unit sales on its U.S. direct site happened in the first 48 hours, that customers bought an average of 1.7 pieces per order, and that nearly 90% of units sold were size 14 or above, with sizes 18 to 24 accounting for 54%.

What the brand did not disclose is revenue, inventory allocation or overall sell-through, which is most of what you would need to judge whether the capsule actually worked. That is standard practice for a launch announcement, and it is worth naming rather than treating a 48-hour percentage as a business case.

The GLP-1 size shift

PwC research drawing on Numerator data found 21% of U.S. households included a current GLP-1 user as of May 2026, up from 9% in January 2025, and 73% of users reported a meaningful change in clothing size. Apparel spending among users rose 9.9% at the six-to-eight-month mark, with women's jeans up 66.1% and swimwear up 31.1%.

Ali Furman, consumer markets industry leader at PwC US, told Glossy that customers are not trading up or down the price ladder. They are buying new sizes within familiar categories and returning to products they had avoided, including dresses, swimwear and intimates.

One percent on the runways

Size-inclusivity campaigner Felicity Hayward counted 115 curve or plus-size model appearances across roughly 11,550 spring 2027 looks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, around 1%. London recorded 21, down 56.3% from the previous season.

The open question

Universal Standard is betting that fluctuating sizes make its model more relevant, and its Fit Liberty exchange program is built on that bet. Whether the rest of the industry follows, or uses the same data to narrow its size curves, is unsettled.

GLP-1 Drugs Linked to Rare Sudden Vision Loss, But Absolute Risk Stays Low

A Rutgers-led study published in Annals of Internal Medicine links GLP-1 drugs including Ozempic and Wegovy to a modest increase in ischemic optic neuropathy, a rare condition that can cause sudden vision loss. The lead author put the increase at roughly three to four additional cases per 10,000 patients over 18 months, and says the data does not establish causation.

Telangana Regulator Warns Online Peptide Buyers Risk Contamination, Serious Reactions and Death

Telangana's drug regulator TG SAFE has warned against buying or self-administering unapproved weight-loss drugs and experimental peptides sold on Telegram and other online platforms, naming BPC-157, GHK-Cu, retatrutide and tesamorelin. The advisory says such products may be contaminated, mislabelled or untested for sterility, and directs doctors not to prescribe them.

Gray Market Peptide Users Report Months of Side Effects, and the Research Is Thin

KFF Health News, written up by Futurism, reports on users of research-grade BPC-157 who describe fatigue, spasms and migraines lasting months after a few days of use. A former FDA official quoted in the piece says robust human studies on these compounds remain rare.
