Leslie Mann Says Judd Apatow Has Gained 15 Pounds in Four Years on Ozempic

Leslie Mann told the audience on Jimmy Kimmel's show that her husband, filmmaker Judd Apatow, is taking Ozempic and has gained weight on it. "He's on Ozempic, he likes to talk about it, and he has gained, like, 15 pounds in four years," Mann, 54, said on the August 27 episode, adding that he is on the highest dose.

Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide, one of the GLP-1 drugs built on peptide hormones that signal fullness to the brain and gut. Us Weekly notes the medication is commonly prescribed to adults with weight-related conditions including diabetes, and that doctors have warned against its use for casual weight loss.

What Mann described

By her account, the weight gain is not a failure of the drug so much as a project. He "likes to outrun the feeling that you get that Ozempic gives you to stop eating," she said, and "likes to, like, override it or outrun it."

She framed it as a point of pride for him: "He's very proud of the fact that the pharmaceutical companies don't have control over him." Her own verdict on the whole arrangement was two words: "It's so weird."

Apatow's own version

This is not new material for him. During a 2024 stand-up show in New York City, the 58-year-old director said he had been on the drug for six months and gained four pounds, describing the nausea as something he treated "as a challenge to eat through."

He put a number on the experiment in that same set, saying it cost him $40,000. He also described eating ice cream and dosing at the same time "just to see who wins the battle," and called the result a draw.

Anecdote, not data

What is on the record here is one person describing his own behavior on a talk show and in a comedy routine, relayed by his wife. There is no trial, no clinician quoted, and no published data anywhere in this story.

That matters because celebrity GLP-1 talk is doing a lot of unearned work in this category right now, in both directions. A funny story about deliberately eating through nausea tells you nothing about how the drug performs in people who are not trying to defeat it.

The open question

The interesting thread Mann pulled on is behavioral, not pharmacological: what happens when appetite suppression meets someone determined to override it. Nobody in this story is studying that, and the answer here is a punchline rather than a finding.
